As Madonna said, “Come join the party…”
Finally come out of hiding and mingle with LGBTQ+ folk and allies. Let’s support a fabulous local gay bar in its recovery. Bring your friends and meet new people from all over the world. We will gather in the back outside patio if the weather is nice or near the stage if not. Yes, wear your most fabulous mask if you wish.
Go Gay DC leader TJ Flavell (www.tjflavell.com) will be there to greet you. Name tags will be provided. There’s no cover charge.
Since times are still tough for some, please bring a nonperishable food item(s) for Arlington Food Assistance Center (AFAC), the community leader in providing and promoting dignified access to nutritious food for those in need. As the primary food bank and pantry in Arlington, AFAC serves over 2,300 local families every week. More information on what’s needed is at http://www.afac.org/donate-food/ Please feel free to bring as much food (cereal, canned goods, etc) as you wish, as it will be picked up that night and delivered to AFAC.
Casual beach attire is fine. Enjoy the cash or credit bar drinks. Just ask the bartender what the happy hour specials are.
Feel free to invite all your friends on Facebook!
We hope you can make it! You may arrive at any time that’s convenient for you.
If you want to dine while there, you can make a or table reservation by calling the restaurant at (703) 685-0555
or purchase food at the bar. See the menu at https://www.freddiesbeachbar.com/menu/dinner
Metro Directions: Crystal City Metro is the closest Metro stop. When you arrive and exit the fare card reader, go up the first escalator and enter the glass doors on your left. Walk through the underground shops to 23rd St, turn right and cross Eads and walk about a block up. Freddie’s is on the right.
Parking is usually available nearby on the residential side streets.
Note: The date was selected for a reason. June 28th marks a historic day in the gay community. The Stonewall riots were a series of spontaneous demonstrations against a police raid that took place in the early morning hours of June 28, 1969, at the Stonewall Inn, in the Greenwich Village neighborhood of New York City. The demonstrations are frequently cited as the first instance in American history when people fought back against a government-sponsored system that persecuted sexual minorities, and they have become a defining event in the gay rights movement in the United States and around the world.
Freddie’s was voted the Best Virginia Bar by Washington Blade readers. Don’t like a smoky bar? You are covered: Freddie’s is a smoke-free establishment. (Ashtrays are provided outside the building if smoking is ‘your thing’). No cover charge. Name tags will be provided. (Oh, remember to bring your ID, as everyone who wishes to drink alcohol is carded of course!)
Once you press Join the event, please feel free to invite all your Facebook friends to join you there!
