Chris Rufer and Craig Biddle will discuss the foundations for flourishing individuals which will lead to flourishing societies. Chris will argue for “The Moral Principle of Human Respect” and Craig will argue for the principles of limited government, individual rights, and rational self-interest.
Chris Rufer founded The Morning Star Company as a one-truck owner-operator company, hauling tomatoes to canneries. Morning Star has grown into a vertically integrated enterprise encompassing greenhouse, transplanting, harvesting, and hauling operations, in addition to three tomato processing facilities located throughout Central California. Chris still owns this company which is known worldwide for its innovation and integrity. Throughout his career, he has actively supported causes to advance human flourishing and well-being. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Economics from UCLA, a master’s in Agricultural Sciences from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, and an MBA from UCLA. Chris and his wife, Melodie, have four children and live in Sacramento, California.
Craig Biddle is cofounder and executive director of Objective Standard Institute, co-founder and editor in chief of The Objective Standard, and executive director of Prometheus Foundation. His books include Loving Life: The Morality of Self-Interest and the Facts that Support It; Rational Egoism: The Morality for Human Flourishing; and the forthcoming Forbidden Facts: Moral Truths Your Parents, Preachers, and Teachers Don’t Want You to Know. His book-in-progress is on thinking in principles.
