During the 2023 session of the Utah Legislature the Coalition of Religious Communities will be hosting conversations on Wednesdays at 1:00 PM about the status of proposals that would reduce hunger and homelessness in Utah. We will be inviting legislators and experts to join use and share their expertise during these short 30 minute meetings.
Issues we are tracking this year include:
• Increased state support for community food pantries.
• Eliminating the sales tax on food.
• Governor Cox’s proposals to invest in housing to reduce homelessness and housing instability.
• A proposal to invest $30 million in a second family shelter and permanent supportive housing for families with children to end unsheltered homelessness for children in Utah.
• A proposal use Medicaid funding to improve case management and access to healthcare services for people who have experienced homelessness.
